Aniversário da Si Fu, 1 ano de Cham Kiu (Si Fu's birthday, 1 year of Cham Kiu)

Dia 12 de outubro, além de ser feriado nacional pelo dia de Nossa Senhora Aparecida e Dia das Crianças, marca também o aniversário da minha Si Fu, Mestre Ursula Lima "Moy Lin Mah". E todos os anos por volta dessa data nós comemoramos o seu aniversário com uma grande celebração. É uma oportunidade para reunir a família kung fu, membros ativos e alguns afastados, e homenagear a líder da nossa família.

October 12th, besides being a national holiday and "children's day" in Brazil, is also my Si Fu, Master Ursula Lina "Moy Lin Mah"'s birthday. And every year around this date we celebrate her birthday with a big event. It's an opportunity to gather the kung fu family, active members and some distant ones, and pay homage to the leader of our family.

Há dois anos eu tive o privilégio de fazer minha cerimônia de ingresso na família Moy Lin Mah na mesma cerimônia que comemorava também o aniversário da Si Fu (leia aqui). Aproximadamente um ano depois a minha cerimônia de acesso ao Cham Kiu também foi junto com o aniversário da Si Fu, e ainda contava com a participação do Si Gung Leo Imamura (leia aqui).

Two years ago I had the privilege to have my admission into the Moy Lin Mah family ceremony coincide with the one that also celebrated Si Fu's birthday. Approximately one year later my Cham Kiu access ceremony also took place along Si Fu's birthday, and still had Si Gung Leo Imamura's presence (read here).

Este ano, mais uma vez tivemos uma importante cerimônia junto com o aniversário da Si Fu, mas eu não fiz parte diretamente dessa. Foi muito importante porque, além do aniversário da Si Fu e da admissão de cinco novos membros à família, também foi a primeira vez que membros da família Moy Lin Mah tiveram acesso ao Biu Ji: a Si Jeh Inez e o Si Hing Caio, dois dos primeiros To Dai da Si Fu.

This year, we had once more an important ceremony along Si Fu's birthday celebration, but I wasn't directly involved in it. It was very important because, besides Si Fu's birthday and the admission of five new memebers to the family, it was also the first time members of the Moy Lin Mah family had access to Biu Ji: Si Jeh Inez and Si Hing Caio, two of Si Fu's first To Dai.

The IX Traditional Moy Lin Mah Family Ceremony took place on October 19th, at a location in Leblon arranged by Flávia.

Mais uma vez tivemos alguns problemas durante a organização. Quando foi iniciado o processo de organização da cerimônia tudo parecia ir bem, até que a duas semamas da data escolhida houve uma reviravolta e não tínhamos mais local nem buffet. Mas com a ajuda crucial do Si Hing Caio - já meio que tendo uma prévia do Biu Ji - conseguimos correr atrás e organizar tudo a tempo!

Once again we had some trouble during the organization. When the ceremony organization process started everything seemed to go well, until two weeks prior to the chosen date things went haywire and we didn't have neither a place for the ceremony nor catering. But with Si Hing Caio's crucial help - already experiencing the nature of Biu Ji - we could get everything in place again!

No fim das contas a cerimônia aconteceu sem maiores problemas, e o aniversário da Si Fu também foi ótimo. Estavam presentes o Si Baak Julio Camacho, Si Baak Ricardo Queiroz e Si Sok Diego Guadelupe como convidados de honra, além de outros Si Hings da Si Fu que foram prestigiar a cerimônia e o aniversário.

In the end the ceremony took place without major problems, and Si Fu's birthday was also great. There were Si Baak Julio Camacho, Si Baak Ricardo Queiroz and Si Sok Diego Guadelupe as guests of honour, as well as other Si Hings of Si Fu's who were there for the ceremony and the birthday celebration.

No final da tarde, durante o almoço de aniversário, os convidados falaram algumas palavras sobre a Si Fu, fazendo suas homenagens, e nós, To Dais, também homenageamos a nossa Si Fu. Ela me pareceu especialmente emocionada dessa vez, talvez pelo fato de ver a família crescendo mais um pouco e dois de seus To Dai avançando para o Biu Ji. A família dela estava toda presente, já que, além do Sim Sam e sua filha Rebeka, sua mãe também foi prestigiar.

By the end of the afternoon, during the birthday lunch, the guests had some words to say about Si Fu, paying their homage, and we, To Dais, also payed homage to our Si Fu. She seemed to me to be especially moved this time, maybe because she was seeing the family growing some more and two of her To Dai going into Biu Ji. All her family was there too, since besides Sim Sam and their daughter Rebeka, her mother was also there.

Como eu disse, dessa vez eu não fiz parte da cerimônia, visto que o Cham Kiu em geral leva um pouco mais de tempo para ser visto todo, mas pelo fato de eu ter entrado para a família em uma comemoração de aniversário da Si Fu, essa cerimônia marcou o meu primeiro ano como praticante do Cham Kiu. Apesar do tempo, eu sinto que ainda estou bem no início desse processo. Pode ser que esteja até um pouco avançado, mas para mim ainda parece que deve ter muita coisa pela frente.

Like I said, this time I did not take part in the ceremony, because Cham Kiu takes some more time to be seen through, but because I was admitted to the family in one of Si Fu's brthday celebrations, this ceremony marks my first year as a practitioner of Cham Kiu. Despite this time, I feel like I'm still at the very beginning of this process. I might even be more advanced than I think, but for me it seems that there still must be a lot to come.

Depois do nascimento do Gabriel no início do ano ainda fiquei uns 2 ou 3 meses sem praticar, e nessa volta diminuí bastante o tempo que dedico à prática no Mo Gun, e pode ser que venha daí essa percepção. Durante o Siu Nim Tau eu vinha me dedicando bastante às atividades no Mo Gun, e isso diminuiu drasticamente agora. Mas não me sinto menos participante na família por isso. Mas em ocasiões como essa, na organização de uma cerimônia, por exemplo, eu vejo que faço parte de algo maior e que estou podendo desenvolver meu kung fu mesmo fora da "prática".

After Gabriel's birth earlier this year I was still 2 or 3 months without going to practice, and upon my return I have drastically shortened the time I dedicate to the pratice at the Mo Gun, and maybe that is the source of that perception. During Siu Nim Tau I was dedicating a lot to the activities at the Mo Gun, and I do that so much less now. But I don't feel less participating in the family for that. On occasions like this, in the organization of a ceremony for example, I see that I'm part of something greater and that I can develop my kung fu even outside of "practice".

Com certeza ainda tenho muito pela frente...

Canção da Despedida (The Good-bye Song)

Quando eu era pequeno participei de um grupo de escoteiros, o 75 da Barra da Tijuca, mas ainda como "lobinho". Fiz parte da primeira "turma" do grupo recém-criado, e minha irmã foi a primeira bandeirante do grupo. Dentre os vários eventos e atividades que participava, de vez em quando havia os encontros com grupos de todo o estado, ou até do país. Geralmente eram acampamentos ao longo de um fim de semana, onde trocávamos experiências, participávamos de atividades como trilhas, gincanas, entre outros, sempre promovendo a integração entre todos. E, invariavelmente, havia as canções.

When I was little I was part of a group of boy scouts, the 75 in Barra da Tijuca, but still only a "cub scout". I was part of the first "class" of the recently created group, and my sister was the first girl scout in the group. Among the several events and activities that I took part in, sometimes there were meetings between groups from all over the state, or even the country. Most of the times we went camping over the weekend, when we exchanged experiences, took part in activities such as trails, games, and others, always promoting the integration between all. And, invariably, there were songs.

Lembro de um desses encontros, talvez o primeiro grande encontro de que tenha participado (a memória já não me deixa ter certeza), em que na noite da véspera do dia em que iríamos embora, nos reunimos todos em volta de uma grande fogueira - fazia bastante frio - e compartilhamos experiências, trocamos presentes que nós mesmos fizemos, e cantamos canções. Uma delas ficou comigo até hoje.

I recall one of these events, maybe the first big meeting I was part of (my memory won't let me be sure), where the night prior to the day we would go home, we gathered round a big fireplace - it was pretty cold then - e shared experiences, exchanged tokens we made ourselves, and sung. One of those songs stays with me to this day.

Anos e anos e anos e anos depois me vejo em outro ambiente de trocas de experiências, integração entre os participantes e muito respeito e apoio mútuo, que é a minha família kung fu. De certa forma, em alguns momentos, me remete aos dias de "lobinho". E uma pessoa muito importante na minha trajetória dentro da família é o meu Gai Siu Yan, Luiz Ratts.

Years and years and years and years later I find myself in another environment for exchanging experiences, integration between practitioners and much respect and support, which is my kung fu family. In a way, at certain times, it takes me back to my "cub scout" days. And one very important person in my path inside this family is my Gai Siu Yan, Luiz Ratts.

Quando estava prestes a entrar para família Moy Lin Mah e precisei indicar quem eu gostaria que fosse meu Gai Siu Yan, a pessoa que era a minha escolha natural gentilmente declinou o convite, pois não se via apto a me dar a atenção que seria necessária naquele momento. Com isso precisei buscar alguém que pudesse me ajudar naquele momento em que eu ingressava na família, e que também fosse alguém que me acompanharia durante toda a minha vida no Ving Tsun. Vi no Si Sok Ratts essa pessoa.

When I was about to enter the Moy Lin Mah family and had to name who I would like to be my Gai Siu Yan, the person who was my natural choice kindly declined the invitation, because he didn't see himself capable of giving me the attention needed at that moment. With that I had to look for someone who could help me at that moment when I was entering the family, and who would also be someone to accompany me through all my life in Ving Tsun. I saw that person in Si Sok Ratts.

O Si Sok Ratts não é membro da família Moy Lin Mah, pois ele é To Dai do meu Si Gung Leo Imamura, assim como minha Si Fu. Mas ele se propôs a ajudar a Si Fu quando ela começou a organizar o núcleo Copacabana, durante esses 3 anos que ele já funciona. Então, quando eu estava me preparando para fazer minha cerimônia de ingresso na família, há praticamente 2 anos, ele já era uma figura conhecida e importante no núcleo.

Si Sok Ratts is not a member of the Moy Lin Mah family, since he is a To Dai to my Si Gung, Leo Imamura, as is my Si Fu. But he proposed to help Si Fu when she started putting together the Copacabana unit, during the 3 years it has been open. So, when I was getting ready for my ceremony to be part of the family, almost 2 years ago, he was already a known and important person in the unit.

Desde então convivi bastante com ele, praticamos diversas vezes, nos encontramos também fora do ambiente do Mo Gun algumas vezes. Aprendi bastante com ele, que sempre esteve disposto a ajudar a todos que estivessem à sua volta.

From then on I met him a lot, we dis lots of practice together, we also met outside of the Mo Gun a few times. I learned a lot from him, who was always there to help everyone and anyone around.

Mas por circunstâncias da vida, o Si Sok precisou tomar a importante decisão de deixar o Rio de Janeiro e voltar para sua Fortaleza natal. Com isso ele deixa também o nosso Mo Gun, mas eu sei que a sua presença vai continuar sendo sentida lá por todos nós, afinal de contas ele se dedicou muito ao Mo Gun e à família.

But life made Si Sok make the important decision of leaving Rio de Janeiro and going back to his native Fortaleza. With that he also leaves our Mo Gun, but I know that his presence will always be felt their by all of us, after all he dedicated a lot to the Mo Gun and our family.

Na última quarta-feira, depois das sessões da noite, fizemos um encontro com alguns membros da família e o Si Sok, para que ele pudesse compartilhar mais um pouco da sua experiência, e que nós pudéssemos nos despedir. Dentre diversos casos contados por ele e pela Si Fu, soubemos mais um pouco sobre a história do Si Sok Ratts, desde que começou a praticar o Ving Tsun até hoje. Ele levou diversos itens que fazem parte da sua história pessoal e presenteou cada um de nós com parte dessa história.

Last Wednesday, after the night practices, we had a gathering with some family members and Si Sok, so that he could share some more of this experience, and we could say good-bye. Among several stories told by him and Si Fu, we got to know a litlle bit more about Si Sok's hsitory, from ehwn he first started practicing Ving Tsun up to today. He took seeral itens that are part of his personal history and gifted each of us with part of that history.

Também fizemos votos para essa nova etapa da vida do Si Sok, e escrevemos algumas palavras para que ele possa levar com ele para Fortaleza. E quando eu estava escrevendo para o Si Sok, me lembrei daquela canção no acampamento há tanto anos, que, apesar de se chamar "Canção da Despedida", diz que na verdade "não é mais que um até logo, não é mais que um breve adeus, bem cedo junto ao fogo voltaremos a nos ver".

We also had some words for this new stage on Si Sok's life, and wrote some phrases that he can take with him to Fortaleza. And when I was writing to Si Sok, I recalled that song at the camping so many years ago that, despite being called "The Good-bye Song", says that truly "it's nothing but a see-you-soon, it's nothing but a brief good-bye, early by the fire we'll see each other again".

Por isso eu digo: até a próxima, Si Sok!

Atualização e um filminho... (Updates and a movie...)

Estou há um mês sem ir ao Mo Gun. No final de março nasceu o meu filho Gabriel, e desde então eu venho me adaptando à nova realidade de pai. Com isso tenho tido menos tempo para fazer outras coisas, e o Ving Tsun ficou nesse grupo durante esse mês. E tenho sentido falta...

It's been a month since I last was at the Mo Gun. In the en of march my son Gabriel was born and I have been adapting to the new role of "dad" since then. Because of that I have been having less time to do other stuff, and Ving Tsun has also fallen into that group this month. And I miss it...

Venho fazendo o máximo para ajudar à Fernanda em casa, a cuidar do Gabriel, então todo o tempo que tenho disponível tem sido dedicado a voltar logo para casa para ajudar, afinal de contas ela já passa o dia inteiro cuidando dele, o mínimo que eu posso fazer é dar um descanso pra ela quando eu chego em casa.

I have been doing my best to help Fernanda at home, taking care of Gabriel, so all the time I have available have been dedicated to getting home soon and help, after all she already spends most of the day taking care of him, the least I can do is give her some rest when I get home.

Então hoje eu estava com o Gabriel no colo e aproveitei que ele já estava cochilando pra dar uma navegada na internet. Vi um link para uma lista de "33 sites incrivelmente úteis que você não sabia que existiam" e um desses links era pra um site que diz se determinado filme está disponível para ser assistido online. Fiz um teste e o site me deu uma lista de outros sites para assistir o filme.

So today I was with Gabriel in my arms and since he was already snoozing I started browsing the internet. I saw a link to a list of "33 amazingly useful website you never knew existed" and one of those links was to a website that tells you if a certain film is available for streaming. I tested it and it gave me a list of other websites to watch the movie. 

Eu não conhecia um dos sites dessa lista e resolvi clicar para conhecer. É um site onde se pode assistir a diversos filmes gratuitamente, mas com intervalos comerciais. Comecei a olhar o acervo do site, bem organizado, e decidi fazer uma pesquisa por "kung fu". Não retornou muitos títulos, mas um deles me chamou a atenção e eu comecei a assistir.

I didn't know one of the websites on this list and decided to check it. It's a website where you can stream several films for free, but with ads. I started to check their titles, well organized, and then I decided to search for "kung fu". It didn't return many titles, but one of them caught my eye and I started to watch it.

É um documentário chamado "Needle Through Brick", que fala sobre as dificuldades passadas por alguns mestres chineses em preservar as tradições de suas artes no mundo atual. Apesar de não tratar especificamente sobre o Ving Tsun (ele fala mais sobre a diferença entre o "kung fu tradicional" e o Wushu), isso me chamou a atenção porque um assunto que diversas vezes aparece nas discussões que acontecem no Mo Gun, ou em visitas do Si Gung, por exemplo, é exatamente o da preservação do Ving Tsun. De como ele foi transmitido oralmente de geração em geração desde o início até hoje, quando temos um Sistema Estruturado através do qual podemos preservar e transmitir essa arte para gerações futuras.

It is a documentary called "Needle Through Brick", and it's about the hard times endured by some chinese kung fu masters trying to preserve their arts' traditions in the modern world. Although it doesn't specifically talk about Ving Tsun (it is more about the differences between "traditional kung fu" and Wushu), that caught my atention because one subject that constantly comes up during discussions at the Mo Gun, or in Si Gung's visits, for example, is exactly that of preserving Ving Tsun. About how it has been transmitted orally for generations from its beginning until today, when we have a Structured System through which we can preserve and transmit this art to future generations.

Outro assunto não tão explicito no filme mas que também é abordado de forma natural nos depoimentos é o da relação Si Fu - To Dai. Em diversos momentos podemos ouvir histórias sobre o Si Fu de cada um dos entrevistados, sobre suas próprias histórias em relação a seus Si Fu, e seus relacionamentos. Achei legal ver isso na prática, no "mundo real", ou seja, fora do ambiente que eu já conheço da minha família kung fu.

Another subject of the movie, although not as explicit, but which is brought up naturally in the testimonies is that of the Si Fu - To Dai relation. In several moments we are able to listen to the stories about each of the masters' Si Fu, about their own stories related to their Si Fu, and those relationships. And liked seeing that in a practical way, in the "real world", outside the environment that I already know with my kung fu family.

Ano novo, vida nova! (New year, new life!)

No último dia 3 de fevereiro nós da família Moy Lin Mah nos reunimos para algumas comemorações. Uma delas foi a comemoração do Ano Novo chinês, que se iniciou no dia 31 de janeiro. Também comemoramos o aniversário de 2 anos da nossa família kung fu, que começou com a sua I Cerimônia Oficial e inauguração do Núcleo Copacabana em 3 de fevereiro de 2012.

Last february 3rd we members of Moy Lin Mah family gathered for some celebrations. One of them was celebrating the Chinese New Year, which started on january 31st. We also celebrated the 2 year anniversary of out kung fu family, which started with its I Official Ceremony and the innauguration of the Copacabana unit on february 3rd, 2012.

O ano de 2013 para os chineses foi considerado ano da Serpente, que é o meu animal no horóscopo chinês. Agora entramos no ano do Cavalo, que é um animal que simboliza movimento. Já li por aí também que "o ano do Cavalo de Madeira promete trazer um ano cheio de descobertas e invenções". Acho que isso diz muito a respeito do meu ano de 2014, quando serei pai pela primeira vez. Tenho certeza que isso vai me proporcionar muitas "descobertas e invenções"! Ele vai ser do signo chinês do Cavalo, o mesmo da minha esposa e da minha Si Fu! Vamos ver no que isso vai dar...

The year 2013 for the chinese people was considered Year of the Serpent, which happens to be my animal on the chinese horoscope. We now enter the Year of the Horse, an animal that simbolizes movement. I've also read around that "the Wooden Horse promises to bring an year full of discoveries and inventions". I think it has a lot to do with my year 2014, when I will be a father for the first time. I'm sure this will bring me lots os "discoveries and inventions"! He will have the Horse as his chinese horoscope sign, the same as my wife's and my Si Fu's. Let's see how that will turn out...

No dia 3 nós nos encontramos inicialmente no Mo Gun para cuidar do nosso local de prática, a "casa" da nossa família, quando limpamos e montamos novamente o San Toe, acendemos incensos e prestamos homenagem aos ancestrais da família.

On the 3rs we gathered first at the Mo Gun to care for out practice place, our family's "home", when we cleaned and re-mounted the San Toe, offered incense and payed homage to the family's ancestors.

Depois dessa pequena cerimônia, fomos jantar em um restaurante chinês na orla de Copacabana, o mesmo onde fui com a Si Fu e outros praticantes do Ving Tsun Experience quando nos preparávamos para a nossa cerimônia de admissão à família. Nas duas ocasiões utilizamos o jantar como um instrumento para estudar as relações entre as pessoas, coisas como a atenção e o cuidado, algumas noções da etiqueta chinesa à mesa, que também podemos levar para o Mo Gun ou para a "vida lá fora".

Following this small ceremony, we went out for dinner at a chinese restaurante by the Copacabana beach, the same one I went with Si Fu and other Ving Tsun practitiners when we were getting ready for our admission ceremony. In both occasions we used the dinner as a way ro srudy the relations between the people, things like attention and care, some notions of chinese etiquette at the table, which we can also take to the Mo Gun or to "life out there".

Foi interessante participar novamente de um evento como esse, mas dessa vez já como membro da família, ainda mais que havia pessoas que ainda não foram admitidas na família, assim como pessoas totalmente "de fora", como a mãe da Tereza. Eu já olhava as pessoas com outros olhos, nem melhor nem pior, só diferente. A gente realmente passa a ter uma percepção diferente das coisas, presta-se mais atenção no que está acontecendo à nossa volta e às pessoas que estão ali.

It was interesting to one more time take part in such event, but this time as a family member, even more so because there were some people there who haven't yet been admitted to the family, as well as some totally "outside" people, like Tereza's mother. I was already looking at the people with different eyes, in neither a better or worse way, only different. We really start having a different perspective of things, we pay more attention to what is going on around us and to the people there.

Ao final do jantar a Si Fu pediu para que cada um de nós compartilhasse um pouco sobre como foi o ano de 2013 e o que esperam para 2014. Da minha parte, eu voltei até 2012 quando comecei no Ving Tsun Experience, e fiz um paralelo de como a convivência com as pessoas que conheci através do Ving Tsun vem me ajudando a lidar com situações da vida, tanto no trabalho quanto com amigos e família. Já via isso acontecendo no Experience, pude aplicar muito do que experimentei do Siu Nim Tau na minha vida, e agora espero que o Cham Kiu me ajude a enfrentar essa grande mudança que acontecerá com o nascimento do Gabriel!

By the end of the dinner, Si Fu asked each one of us to share something about the year 2013 and expectations for 2014. For me, I went all the way back to 2012 when I started in Ving Tsun Experience, and drew a parallel to how my experience with the people I knew through Ving Tsun has been helping me deal with life situations, be it at work or with friends and family. I had seen it happening in Experince, I was able to apply much of what I have seen of Siu Nim Tau to my life, and now I hope Cham Kiu will help me deal with the huge change that will happen with Gabriel's birth!

Um ano no Siu Nim Tau (One year in Siu Nim Tau)

Durante a visita do Si Gung ao nosso núcleo em Copacbana aconteceu a VI Cerimônia Tradicional da Família Moy Lin Mah, como eu comentei no último post. Exatamente um ano depois de ingressar na família, lá estávamos eu e a Angela acessando o Cham Kiu.

During Si Gung's visit to our Copacabana unit, the VI Traditional Ceremony of the Moy Lin Mah family took place, like I said on the last post. Exactly one year after entering the family, there were me and Angela accessing Cham Kiu.

Segundo a própria Si Fu, das últimas vezes que o Si Gung esteve no nosso Mo Gun, estava sempre muito cheio e ele não teve a oportunidade de ver bem os detalhes da nossa casa. Dessa vez, eles conseguiram até "ver o chão do Mo Gun"!

On Saturday, after Si Gung's and Si Taai's arrival in Rio, Si Fu took them for a visit of the Mo Gun. Após a visita, Si Gung, Si Taai, Si Fu e Si Sok Ratts foram nos encontrar para almoçar. Eu já estava com a Fernanda no restaurante, onde encontramos com o Rodolpho, que tinha chegado pouco antes para cuidar da reserva, e logo depois chegou o André, que faria seu "segundo" Hoi Kuen aquela noite. Almoçar na companhia deles foi muito bom, com Si Fu, Si Gung e principalmente Si Taai compartilhando conosco conselhos e "dicas" para quando o Gabriel nascer, em abril.

After the visit, Si Gung, Si Taai, Si Fu and Si Sok Ratts met us for lunch. I was already at the restaurant with Fernanda, where we met Rodolpho, who had arrived a bit earlier to see about the reservations, and a short while later arrived André, who would be going through his "second" Hoi Kuen later that night. To have lunch with them was very nice, with Si Fu, Si Gung and specially Si Taai sharing with us advices and "hints" for when Gabriel is born, come April.

Em seguida fomos para o hotel nos preparar para as atividades com Si Gung e Si Taai. Si Gung faria atividades sobre Siu Nim Tau, Cham Kiu e Biu Ji, divididas em 2 partes separadas, mas que acabaram se fundindo em uma grande conversa envolvendo todos. Alguns temas foram recorrentes em relação ao seminário de alguns meses atrás, mas dessa vez Si Gung falou bastante sobre a "dimensão kung fu", que está exemplificada muito bem no post do Si Hing Thiago Pereira.

After that we headed to the hotel to get ready for the activities with Si Gung and Si Taai. Si Gung would be involved in activities about Siu Nim Tau, Cham Kiu and Biu Ji, divided in 2 separate parts, but that finally merged into one big conversation envolving all. Some topics were expanded from the seminar a few months ago, but this time Si Gung talked a lot about the "kung fu dimension", which is very well explained in Si Hing Thiago Pereira's post.

Paralelmente a Si Taai fez uma atividade com as crianças que praticam o Ving Tsun nos diversos núcleos da Moy Yat Ving Tsun no Rio de Janeiro, mas que também atraiu outros praticantes que já não são mais tão crianças, além de acompanhantes (esposas, maridos, namorados, namoradas, mães, pais e afins).

At the same time Si Taai had an activity with the children who are in Ving Tsun Experience from various Moy Yat Ving Tsun Rio de Janeiro units, which have also attracted some other practitioners who are not children anymore, besides companions (wives, husbands, boyfriends, firlfriends, mothers, fathers and the like).

Como as atividades da tarde demoraram um pouco pra começar, o término delas também foi ficando para mais tarde. Acabaram por volta as 17:30h, quando nesse horário já deveríamos estar organizando o San Toe no restaurante para preparar para a cerimônia à noite. Fui correndo ajudar o pessoal a organizar a cerimônia, corri para casa para me arrumar, e corri de volta para o hotel. Ainda fizemos alguns últimos ajustes, inclusive no formato da cerimônia, que seria dividida em duas partes (Hoi Kuen e acesso ao Cham Kiu) porque não caberiam todos os participantes da cerimônia ao mesmo tempo no espaço que tínhamos.

Since the afternoon activities took some time to start, their end time was also being delayed. They ended at around 5:30 PM, at which time we should already be organizing the San Toe in the restaurante to prepare for the ceremony at night. I rushed to help the people to organize the ceremony, then rushed home to get ready, and rushed back to the hotel. We atill made some last adjustments, even to the ceremony's format, which would then be divided in two parts (Hoi Kuen and access to Cham Kiu) because we wouldn't be able to fit all participants at the same time in the space we had.

Para o Hoi Kuen tínhamos o Fancisco, Tereza, André, Rodrigo e Fred. Dos cinco, só não tive muito contato anteriormente com a Tereza, mas nos falamos bastante durante a preparação para a cerimônia. Como venho acompanhando algumas sessões do Experience com frequência, tive a oportunidade de praticar várias vezes com os outros quatro, e foi muito bom ter participado da cerimônia com eles. Cada um pôde compartilhar suas observações sobre o Ving Tsun Experience, e também puderam ouvir as palavras dos convidados de honra: Si Baak Júlio Camacho e Si Baak Ricardo Queiroz.

To the Hoi Kuen we had Francisco, Tereza, André, Rodrigo and Fred. Of the five, the only one I didn't have much contact previously was Tereza, but we were able to talk a lot during the preparations for the ceremony. Since I have been accompanying some Experience sessions frequently, I had the opportunity of practicing several times with the other four, and it was a great pleasure participating in the ceremony with them. Each one could share their observations about the Ving Tsun Experience, and also were able to listen to the words from the honorable guests: Si Baal Júlio Camacho and Si Baak Ricardo Queiroz.

Logo em seguida foi a vez da cerimônia de acesso ao Cham Kiu, da qual participamos eu e Angela. Foi legal porque nós ingressamos na família na mesma cerimônia, no ano passado e, apesar de não termos feito o Siu Nim Tau juntos, por causa dos nossos horários, pudemos fazer essa passagem juntos novamente.

Right after that was the time for the access to Cham Kiu ceremony, of which me and Angela were part. It was cool because we enetered the family in the same ceremony, last year and, even if we did not fo through Siu Nim Tau together, because of our schedules, we were able to make this passage together again.

No nosso caso, Si Gung solicitou que mostrássemos a forma do Siu Nim Tau. Nos levantamos das nossas cadeiras e íamos nos preparando para fazer ali por perto delas, mas o Si Gung pediu que nos aproximássemos mais do San Toe, e consequentemente deles: Si Gung e Si Taai, Si Fu e Sim Sam. Nisso eu fiquei exatamente à frente do Si Gung e, para quem até aquele momento estava bem tranquilo, foi no mínimo "interessante" apresentar o Siu Nim Tau *de frente* para o Si Gung. Às vezes dava até para percebê-lo balançando a cabeça, observando o que eu estava fazendo. Confesso que o coração acelerou naquele momento.

In our case, Si Gung asked us to show the Siu Nim Tau form. We stood up from our chairs and were about to do the form there, near them, but Si Gung asked us to come closer to the San Toe, and consequently to them: Si Gung and Si Taai, Si Fu and Sim Sam. With that I was standing right in front of Si Gung and, for someone who up to that moment was feeling pretty calm, it was at least "interesting" presenting the Siu Nim Tau *facing* Si Gung. Some times I could even notive him nodding his head, observing what I was doing. I have to confess that the heart sped up at that moment.

Depois da cerimônia tivemos um jantar e, logo em seguida, a comemoração do aniversário da Si Fu, que foi preparado por toda a família, com diversas homenagens por parte dos presentes. Foi muito bonito e emocionante, principalmente as palavras do Si Baak Júlio Camacho e do Si Gung.

After the ceremony we had dinner and, after that, Si Fu's birthday celebration, which was prepared by the whole family, with several homages from everyone there. It was very beautiful and touching, secially Si Baak Júlio Camacho's and Si Gung's words.

No dia seguinte tivemos uma prática em conjunto no Parque Lage, um espaço muito bonito no Rio de Janeiro que eu não visitava há muito tempo. Foi a primeira vez que tive contato com o Si Gung durante uma prática. Infelizmente acho que não tiraram nenhuma foto do momento em que ele quase quebrou o meu braço... =]

The next day we had a group practice in Parque Lage, a beautiful place in Rio de Janeiro that I hadn't visited for ages. It was the first time I had contact with Si Gung during practice. Unfortunately no photos exist of the moment when he almost broke my arm... =]

Mais uma vez houve uma atividade em paralelo coordenada pela Si Taai, na qual ela abordou "A Arte da Paz".

Once again there was a parallel activity coordinated by Si Taai, in which she addressed the "Art of Peace".

E, ao final, houve uma conversa com todos, na qual Si Taai e Si Gung abordaram em conjunto "As Artes da Guerra e da Paz", e como elas se complementam.

And in the end there was a conversation with all, in which Si Taai and Si Gung talked about "The Arts of War and of Peace", and how the complement each other.

Mais uma cerimônia chegando... depois de um ano de Siu Nim Tau, já estou me preparando para a passagem para o Cham Kiu.

A VI Cerimônia Tradicional da Família Moy Lin Mah vai acontecer no dia 12 de outubro de 2013, durante a visita do Si Gung Leo Imamura ao núcleo Copacabana. Vamos ter diversos eventos nos dias 12 e 13, e terei a honra da participação do Si Gung e da Si Tai na cerimônia. Também vamos comemorar o aniversário da Si Fu mais uma vez na cerimônia, da mesma forma que aconteceu na minha cerimônia de Hoi Kuen há um ano atrás.

The VI Traditional Ceremony of the Moy Lin Mah Family will take place on October 12th 2013, during Si Gung Leo Imamura's visit to the Copacabana unit. Several events will take place during the 12th and 13th, and I will have the honor of Si Gung's and Si Tai's presence during the ceremony. We will also be celebrating Si Fu's birthday once again in this ceremony, the same way we did in my Hoi Kuen ceremony a year ago.

Como a cerimônia está inserida no meio da visita oficial do Si Gung ao núcleo Copacabana, vamos ter atividades desde a tarde de sábado e durante a manhã de domingo, com a participação do Si Gung e também da Si Tai em algumas delas. Pela primeira vez vou participar de atividades práticas com o Si Gung, já que as outras 2 vezes que estive com ele foram no seminário de Siu Nim Tau e na inauguração do núcleo Centro.

Since the ceremony will be happening during Si Gung's official visit to the Copacabana unit, we will have activities from saturday afternoon until sunday morning, with Si Gung's participation, as well Si Tai's in some of them. For the first time I will be taking part in practical activities with Si Gung, since the other 2 times I was with him were during the Siu Nim Tau seminar and later for the Centro unit inauguration.

Da mesma forma que eu fiz na cerimônia do ano passado, estamos organizando a nossa própria cerimônia. Só que dessa vez quem está mais à frente é o pessoal que vai ingressar na família (como foi o meu caso ano passado), e eu estou dando apoio em outras questões. Começamos com algumas reuniões no Mo Gun para distribuir as equipes e acertar a programação da visita do Si Gung nos dois dias.

The same way I did for last year's ceremony, we are putting together our own ceremony. Only this time who is leading the actions are the folks that will be accepted to the family (as was my case last year), and I am supporting them in other questions. We started with some meetings in the Mo Gun to distribute the teams and come up with a schedule for Si Gung's visit during the two days.

Além das reuniões no Mo Gun organizadas pela Si Fu, também foram feitas outras, organizadas pelos próprios praticantes, para continuar discutindo assuntos sobre os eventos, como um café da manhã na casa da Lúcia. Tudo para tentar planejar a visita do Si Gung da melhor maneira possível.

Besides the meetings in the Mo Gun, organized by Si Fu, there were also others, organized by the practitioners themselves, to continue discussing about the events, like a breakfast at Lúcia's home. Everything to try and plan Si Gung's visit in the best possible way.

Nesse último fim de semana nos reunimos no Mo Gun para prepará-lo para a visita do Si Gung, dando uma "geral" na pintura entre outras coisas. Também aproveitamos para falarmos mais um pouco sobre a cerimônia, principalmente para o pessoal que vai fazer o Hoi Kuen, que vai ser novidade. Mas é claro que isso se aplica a todos, já que devemos estar preparados para tudo.

This past weekend we met at the Mo Gun to prepare it for Si Gung's visit, taking care of the painting and other things. We also took the chance to talk about the ceremony, mostly for those who will do the Hoi Kuen, which is all new. But of course this applies to all, since we should be ready for everything.

Depois da arrumação fizemos um ensaio para a cerimônia, e prestamos homenagens no San Toe já arrumado com novos itens

Esse ano de Siu Nim Tau foi interessante. Foi um aprendizado gradativo, porém bastante estruturado. Se eu sempre fui um cara detalhista, durante o Siu Nim Tau eu aprendi a dar ainda mais valor aos detalhes, às pequenas coisas. Interessante ter essa visão das pequenas peças que montam algo maior, e é assim que eu tenho visto o Siu Nim Tau, como os blocos que vão me ajudar a construir algo maior mais à frente. Outro ponto é buscar a simplicidade, ou a ação mais prática para resolver algum conflito. De certa forma acho que também consegui levar esse aprendizado para a minha vida pessoal e profissional, algumas vezes conscientemente, e com certeza outras sem nem perceber.

This year of Siu Nim Tau studies was interesting. It has been a gradual learning, but a very structured one. If I have always been attentive to details, during Siu Nim Tau I have learned to value them even more, value the small things. It's interesting this vision of small parts that make something bigger, that's how I see Siu Nim Tau, like building blocks that will help me build something bigger further on. Another thing is searching for simplicity, or the most practical action to solve a conflict. In a way, I think I also was able to take these lessons to my personal and professional life, sometimes consciously, and certaily other times without even knowing.

Além disso eu tive a oportunidade de acompanhar as sessões de Siu Nim Tau do pessoal que fez o Hoi Kuen no início desse ano, o que me proporcionou ver o Siu Nim Tau simultaneamente por dois ângulos diferentes. Isso apresentou uma riqueza de informações que talvez eu não tivesse caso isso não acontecesse. E também venho acompanhando sessões do Ving Tsun Experience praticamente toda semana, o que me faz lembrar daquilo que vi há mais de um ano mas, mais que isso, tem me ajudado a ver esses detalhes que comentei, nos outros praticantes. Já falei aqui no blog antes que parece que aprendemos mais mobilizando os outros do que quando somos mobilizados, e isso tem parecido cada vez mais verdade para mim.

And besides that I had the opportunity to accompany the Siu Nim Tau sessions of the people who did their Hoi Kuen at the beginning of this year, which have allowed me to look at Siu Nim Tau from two different angles. This has presented a wealth of information that maybe I wouldn't be able to get had this not happened. And I have also been accompanying Ving Tsun Experience sessions almost weekly, which reminds me of what I saw more than a year ago but, more than that, helps me look at the details I talked about, in other practicioners. I said it once before in the blog, it seems we learn more by mobilizing others than when we are the mobilized ones, and this seems the more true for me.

Agora a próxima etapa é o Cham Kiu, que vai trazer algo diferente na minha prática. Ao mesmo tempo, minha vida pessoal também vai trazer algo diferente ano que vem. Será que o Cham Kiu vai me ajudar a lidar com a novidade? Isso veremos...
